Daśā calculator दशा

Which planetary period you are living through, five levels deep — and what the classical texts say about it. Three independent daśā systems, so you can see where they agree.

What you get

Vimśottarī, five levels

Mahādaśā, antardaśā, pratyantar, sūkṣma and prāṇa — computed from your Moon’s exact nakṣatra position.

Chara daśā

The Jaimini rāśi daśā, with savya/apasavya reckoning by lagna parity and the exalted/debilitated lord adjustment.

Yoginī daśā

The eight yoginīs over a thirty-six-year cycle, attributed to the Rudrayāmala Tantra.

Varṣaphala

Your solar-return year chart with the Muntha and the year lord, following the Tājika tradition.

How Horā computes it

Planetary positions come from a high-precision astronomical ephemeris, sidereal with the Lāhirī (Citrapakṣa) ayanāṁśa, and bhāvas are whole-sign as in the Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra. Sunrise and sunset are computed by rise-transit for your exact coordinates rather than assumed, which is why timings shift correctly with your latitude and the season.

The interpretation is not written by a language model. Each statement is a digitised classical rule and arrives with the text it came from, so you can go and check it. Where traditions differ, the convention Horā follows is stated in the reading itself.

Three steps

  1. Enter four things. Name, date, time and place of birth. Horā resolves the coordinates and the historically correct UTC offset for you.
  2. Horā casts the chart. Positions, vargas, strengths, daśās and yogas — computed, not looked up.
  3. Read it with its sources. Every conclusion carries its confidence level and the verse behind it.

Questions

Which daśā system should I trust?

Vimśottarī is the primary system in the Parāśara tradition and the one to read first. Horā shows Chara and Yoginī alongside it so you can see where independent systems point at the same period — agreement is itself information.

How far ahead can it calculate?

Vimśottarī currently covers one full 120-year cycle from birth. If you have lived past the cycle boundary, Horā says so rather than silently wrapping around.

Does the birth time matter for daśā?

The daśā balance comes from the Moon’s position, which moves about half a degree per hour — so a wrong birth time of a few hours shifts your period start dates by months. Time accuracy matters here more than most people expect.
