The Sun signifies the soul; the Moon the mind; Mars strength; Mercury speech; Jupiter knowledge and happiness; Venus desire; and Saturn (the Sun’s son) sorrow. The Sun and Moon are the two royal planets; Mars is the army-commander; Mercury the heir-apparent; Jupiter and Venus (preceptors of the gods and of the demons) the two ministers; and Saturn the servant.

The mind today
The Moon rests beside the Sun and the night is dark — the mind, too, is invited to rest. Tradition gives this day to the ancestors and to quiet. Energy may feel low; that is the day doing its work, not a fault in you.
Pūrṇā — A day of fullness. Count what is already complete — write down three things that went well before you sleep.
Three things that help
Keep the evening light: an early, simple meal and screens off an hour before bed.
Remember your elders — light a lamp, offer water, or simply phone a grandparent.
Ten minutes of silence. Write one intention for the fortnight that begins tomorrow.

The Moon is nearly full and the bright half is at its strongest — the classics count the gentle grahas powerful now (BPHS 3.38). The mind is sociable and quick. Feelings grow larger too, so give them good company and enough sleep.
Pūrṇā — A day of fullness. Count what is already complete — write down three things that went well before you sleep.
Three things that help

Nandā “the joyful”
The mind today
The Moon is nearly full and the bright half is at its strongest — the classics count the gentle grahas powerful now (BPHS 3.38). The mind is sociable and quick. Feelings grow larger too, so give them good company and enough sleep.
Nandā — A day whose very name is joy. Let one small delight be deliberate — music, a favourite meal, a call to someone who makes you laugh.
Ekādaśī — the eleventh tithi, kept as a fast for Viṣṇu. Even a lighter plate today (fruit, one grain-free meal) rests the body and steadies attention.
Three things that help
Share the work and the meal — plan something with friends or family.
Protect sleep: bright nights shorten it. Draw the curtains and keep a fixed bedtime.
Refine rather than restart — polish the thing you began at the crescent.

Pūrṇā “the full”
The mind today
The whole disc shines — Parāśara places the full Moon first among the benefics (BPHS 35.9). The mind is at high tide: warmth, devotion and creativity run strong, and so can restlessness. Give the fullness a vessel — prayer, music, gratitude.
Pūrṇā — A day of fullness. Count what is already complete — write down three things that went well before you sleep.
Three things that help
Sit in the moonlight for ten minutes; let the eyes rest on the disc and the breath slow.
Go easy on caffeine and late screens tonight; sleep tends to run lighter.
Write a gratitude list of five, or sing — bhajan, kīrtana, anything sung aloud.

The Moon rises later each night, still generous with light. The mind digests what the full Moon stirred up. It is a good time to teach, to thank, and to give things away.

Give something away — food, clothes, time. Generosity is the oldest mood-lifter.

Why the Moon, for the mind
कमलजविधातृहरियमशशांकषड्वक्त्रशक्रवसुभुजगाः ।
धर्मेशसवितृमन्मथकलयो विश्वे च तिथिपतयः ॥ ९८.१॥
Brahma (kamalaja), the Creator, Vishnu (hari), Yama, the Moon, Skanda (shadvaktra, "six-faced"), Indra, the Vasus, the serpents; the lord of dharma, Savitri/the Sun, Kama (Manmatha), the Kalas (or Shiva), and the Vishvedevas -- these are the lords of the lunar days.
In the dark fortnight (Kṛṣṇa-pakṣa), the cruel [malefic planets] are strong; in the bright [fortnight] (Śukla-pakṣa), the benefics are endowed with vitality. In the northern course (Uttarāyaṇa), the benefic planets are strong; in the southern course (Dakṣiṇāyana), the others [the malefics are strong].
Readings and suggestions are Horā’s own reflections on these classical meanings — everyday self-care, offered with the tradition’s goodwill. If low mood, anxiety or sleeplessness stays for two weeks or more, please speak with a doctor or a mental-health professional.
