Markets and the sky — the ±5% record since 2000

28 documented ±5% days
18 fall days
10 rise days
6 circuit-halt days

Worst day on the record: 23 March 2020, −13.15%. Best: 18 May 2009, +17.34%.

What the record shows

  • On 7 of the 28 event days, “Maṅgala and Śani within 10° of conjunction or opposition” held — 25.0%, against a baseline of 12.0% of all days 1900–2025 (ratio 2.09). Classical mundane doctrine: the mutual affliction of Maṅgala and Śani marks strife and scarcity. The 10° orb is Horā’s stated configuration; the texts describe, they do not measure in degrees.
  • On 5 of the 28 event days, “Within 18 days either side of an eclipse” held — 17.9%, against a baseline of 30.6% of all days 1900–2025 (ratio 0.58). Proximity to an eclipse season — the luminaries near the nodal axis. The eighteen-day span is Horā’s stated convention.

Each classical indicator is counted across the event days and compared with the same 1900–2025 daily baseline the mundane record uses. A row with fewer than 5 hits is reported as too few to read.

This page is a historical record and a classical correlation count. It is not trading advice, and no configuration of the sky is claimed to cause a price move.

The classical indicators, counted

Indicator All days Fall days Rise days Baseline (all days 1900–2025) Reading
Within 14 days after an eclipse
அடிப்படை

Bṛhat Saṁhitā, the eclipse chapters: effects are said to follow an eclipse. The fourteen-day window is Horā’s stated convention, not the text’s number — the text gives no count of days.

1 / 28 (3.6%) 1 / 18 (5.6%) 0 / 10 (0.0%) 17.4% too few to read
Within 18 days either side of an eclipse
அடிப்படை

Proximity to an eclipse season — the luminaries near the nodal axis. The eighteen-day span is Horā’s stated convention.

5 / 28 (17.9%) 4 / 18 (22.2%) 1 / 10 (10.0%) 30.6% below the baseline
Maṅgala and Śani within 10° of conjunction or opposition
அடிப்படை

Classical mundane doctrine: the mutual affliction of Maṅgala and Śani marks strife and scarcity. The 10° orb is Horā’s stated configuration; the texts describe, they do not measure in degrees.

7 / 28 (25.0%) 3 / 18 (16.7%) 4 / 10 (40.0%) 12.0% above the baseline
Graha-yuddha — two tārā-grahas within 1°
அடிப்படை

Bṛhat Saṁhitā, the graha-yuddha chapter: a war between planets is said to distress nations, and the people of the defeated planet to suffer.

2 / 28 (7.1%) 1 / 18 (5.6%) 1 / 10 (10.0%) 8.0% too few to read
Three or more of the five tārā-grahas retrograde
அடிப்படை

The planetary-motion chapters of the Bṛhat Saṁhitā treat anomalous motion as a disturbance marker. The threshold of three is Horā’s stated configuration.

0 / 28 (0.0%) 0 / 18 (0.0%) 0 / 10 (0.0%) 5.2% too few to read
Śani and Guru within 3° of conjunction
அடிப்படை

The traditional epoch-marking conjunction of mundane astrology. The 3° orb is Horā’s stated configuration.

0 / 28 (0.0%) 0 / 18 (0.0%) 0 / 10 (0.0%) 1.8% too few to read
Budha retrograde or combust
அடிப்படை

The price (argha) and motion chapters of the Bṛhat Saṁhitā link anomalous motion of the significator of trade to disturbance in prices. Retrogression and a 12° combustion orb are Horā’s stated operationalisation.

11 / 28 (39.3%) 7 / 18 (38.9%) 4 / 10 (40.0%) 43.9% near the baseline — no signal

How this is compiled and computed

The rule of the record: trading days since 1 January 2000 on which the Sensex (or the Nifty 50) closed 5% or more from its previous close, plus the circuit-halt days whose close ended inside 5% — compiled from exchange records and documented retrospectives, each row naming its public source. The compilation aims at completeness and does not guarantee it: candidate days that could not be verified against a credible record were dropped and are disclosed (2000-04-04, 2004-05-14, 2008-01-23, 2008-01-25, 2008-03-25, 2008-10-06, 2008-10-13, 2008-10-15, 2020-03-18), and a documented day found missing is a correction we invite.

Modern market data is exempt from the classical no-post-1950 rule — that rule governs śāstra citations, not exchange records.

The sky of each event date is computed with the same sidereal (Lāhirī) ephemeris engine that runs every page of this site — at 12:00 UT, the same instant convention as the engine’s baseline sampling, so event days and ordinary days are measured on the same footing.

The baseline: daily sampling of the 46,021 days of 1900–2025 — the same figure /geopolitical publishes. The percentages are arithmetic on the counts; a row with fewer than 5 hits is given no direction.

Selection bias applies: this is a compilation of famous, verifiable days, not a survey of the world’s markets. A ratio near the baseline is no signal. Nothing here predicts any future price move.

The 13 March 2020 session is counted among the rise days by its close (+4.04%), although its qualifying move was the 10% lower circuit — a decision disclosed here rather than hidden.

This page is a historical record and a classical correlation count. It is not trading advice, and no configuration of the sky is claimed to cause a price move.
